3 April 2016; Edinburgh

Today we walked to Hollyrood Palace, the official residence of the Queen, in Scotland. It was extremely cold and drizzling with rain.

Calton Hill provides a view of Edinburgh from within, with views over the river Forth and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

We visited the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery, which contain many wonderful paintings and other works of art.

We finished the day with a walk to Greyfriars Kirk (a church) within which is buried John Gray and his beloved Skye Terrier, Bobby.

  1. Enjoying all these sweet posts. Short but informative. And with pretty pictures!

  2. Pity about the weather ? But there is some much to do just up and down the Royal Mile. Who cares about the rain. Are you able to get out of the city a bit? I recall there was a good bus trip out to Stirling Castle where you heard the whole sordid Stirling Castle standoff thing. People being chucked over castle walls and all…..seeing the place was a whole other story! They sure do history well there. Jim did the scary, haunted ‘under the city’ tour which was pretty lame. Naturally! I don’t know WHAT he expected. I didn’t do as I would have peed myself. ?
