Along the way to the top we were able make &#8220;music&#8221; by pulling on the bell ringer cords following number sequences printed on laminated sheets.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_435\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-435\" style=\"width: 518px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-435\" src=\"https:\/\/worktime.dynalias.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/View-from-St.-Annes-bell-tower-Cork.jpg\" alt=\"View from St. Anne's bell tower, Cork\" width=\"518\" height=\"345\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-435\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">View from St. Anne&#8217;s bell tower, Cork<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After lunch we crossed onto the south side of the river to visit Red Abbey, Elizabeth Fort, St. Fin Barre&#8217;s Cathedral and finishing at the University College Cork.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_432\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-432\" style=\"width: 345px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-432\" src=\"https:\/\/worktime.dynalias.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Red-Abbey-Cork.jpg\" alt=\"Red Abbey, Cork\" width=\"345\" height=\"518\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-432\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Red Abbey, Cork<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A fire destroyed much of Red Abbey&#8217;s structure in 1799. All that remains today of the structure is the bell tower of the abbey&#8217;s church.<\/p>\n<p>The original Elizabeth Fort was built in 1601 of timber and earth but within a few years was pulled down by the citizens of Cork fearing that the fort would be used against them by James I during the Tudor conquest of Ireland. It was rebuilt in its current stone and star configuration from 1624 to 1626.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_431\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-431\" style=\"width: 518px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-431\" src=\"https:\/\/worktime.dynalias.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/Door-to-door-salesman-not-welcome.jpg\" alt=\"Door to door salesman not welcome, Elizabeth Fort\" width=\"518\" height=\"345\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-431\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Door to door salesman not welcome, Elizabeth Fort<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>St. Fin Barre is Cork&#8217;s Anglican Cathedral situated in the centre of the city. Consecrated in 1870, the Cathedral lies on a site where Christian worship has been offered since the seventh century. You can see St. Fin Barre in the image taken from St. Anne&#8217;s Church bell tower (above).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_433\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-433\" style=\"width: 518px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-433\" src=\"https:\/\/worktime.dynalias.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/04\/St.-Fin-Barres-Cathedral-Cork.jpg\" alt=\"St. Fin Barre's Cathedral, Cork\" width=\"518\" height=\"506\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-433\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">St. Fin Barre&#8217;s Cathedral, Cork<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We finished our walking tour of Cork strolling through the grounds of University College Cork.
